On 28 October 2026, our Partner Kenneth Leung was invited by the Legal Profession Advancement Association to speak at its October Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Seminar Series. Entitled “HKEX’s Stricter Resumption Guidelines: What Listed Companies Need to Know”, the seminar examined recent regulatory developments affecting the resumption of trading by Hong Kong-listed companies and their practical implications. Held at our offices and simultaneously broadcast via Zoom, the seminar attracted over 100 participants attending in person and online.
During the seminar, Mr Leung outlined Hong Kong’s trading resumption framework and the evolving regulatory landscape, with particular focus on the Stock Exchange’s September 2026 revisions to their Guidance Letter GL95-18. He discussed the implications of the revised requirements for corporate governance, internal controls and independent investigations, highlighting the Exchange’s increasing emphasis on demonstrating the effectiveness of remedial measures rather than merely their completion., underscoring the need for listed companies to address underlying issues and provide sufficient evidence that corrective measures have been properly implemented.
Drawing on his practical experience advising listed companies, Mr Leung also discussed the key challenges commonly faced by listed companies seeking to resume trading, offering insights into resumption planning, risk management and engagement with regulators, providing participants with valuable guidance on navigating the revised regulatory requirements.
