Stevenson, Wong & Co. presented at Shanghai Banking Association on arbitration and cross-border litigation

On 23 October 2014, SW partners Mr. Eric Lui, Ms. Heidi Chui and associate Ms. Jennifer Li delivered a presentation to 77 bankers from over 40 banks in China on the topic of “Arbitration and Cross-border Litigation” at the Shanghai Banking Association.

SW delivered a detailed presentation on the use of arbitration and cross-border litigation in relation to banking disputes, shareholders’ disputes, white collar crimes and commercial fraud. Topics such as enforcement of Hong Kong judgments in the mainland China and cross-border tracing of property were also covered. The presentation also included case studies which provided the audience with a clear and precise demonstration on how rights of banks can be protected through litigation and arbitration in Hong Kong.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended Allbright Law Office “Capital Market Forum” and Xiamen Office opening celebration

On 18 October 2014, SW partner Mr. Eric Lui attended the “Capital Market Forum” hosted by Allbright Law Office and also Allbright Law Office (Xiamen) opening celebration held at the Xiamen International Convention Center in Xiamen, China. Near 400 attendees joined the event, including representatives from other Allbright offices in Mainland China and Hong Kong.

The Xiamen office of Allbright, which was opened on 15 May 2014, is the eleventh office of Allbright. The Xiamen office currently has a total of 40 practising attorneys and attorney assistants. Relying on Allbright’s leading position in the practice areas of finance, securities, real estate, intellectual property, public utilities and M&A, the Xiamen office will utilise its geographical advantage to provide comprehensive legal services to clients.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. participated in the Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum 2014 organised by the Law Society of Hong Kong

The Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum 2014 organized by the Law Society of Hong Kong (“the Law Society”) was successfully held on 17 October 2014. The theme of this year’s forum is “To Grasp the Opportunities of Globalization and Reach Success in the Future”.

Last year, SW partner Ms. Heidi Chui was invited by the Law Society to give a speech at the forum on the new trends of Hong Kong litigation law and practice. This year, Ms. Chui, as a member of the Organizing Committee for the forum, was invited again to represent the Law Society to moderate the forum on the topic “New Trends in International Arbitration, Dispute Resolution and Cross-Border Litigation”.

The event attracted more than 200 legal professionals coming from 26 provinces and cities in Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong, who exchanged insights on important topics such as international arbitration, cross-border litigation and enforcement. This fruitful event was well received with positive feedback from all participants.

On 17 October 2014, SW partner Mr. Eric Lui attended the opening celebration of Allbright Law Office (Qingdao) held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Qingdao, China. Over 200 attendees joined the event, including representatives from Qingdao Enterprise Federation, Qingdao Entrepreneurs’ Association, Qingdao Arbitration Commission and Qingdao Blue Ocean Equity Trading Center.

The Qingdao office of Allbright, which was opened on 15 April 2014, is the first law office in Qingdao launched by a leading national commercial law firm headquartered in Shanghai. The Qingdao office of Allbright currently has a total of 46 members, including 8 partners and 9 professional teams. In addition to Allbright’s leading practice areas of corporate, commercial and M&A, securities and capital markets, banking and finance, real estate and construction, intellectual property and international trade, the Qingdao office has also built up specialized teams in customs, taxation and insolvency and restructuring.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in Qingdao

SW partner Mr. Eric Lui and Head of Business Development in China Ms. Connie Yeung attended the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum (the “Forum”) held in Qingdao, China organized by the Department of Justice on 16 September 2014.  The Forum was co-organized by the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre as well as the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce.

The main objective of the Forum is to promote Hong Kong’s attributes as a leading legal services centre.  Up to 500 representatives from mainland and foreign business enterprises in the Shandong Province, lawyers and relevant Mainland government officials attended the event.  Plenary sessions entitled “Going-out” – Legal Issues and Risk Management and “Dispute Resolution” were held at the Forum.  A business matching session was also provided for law firms to promote their services to potential clients on the spot.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended the Annual General Meeting of INTERLAW in Miami, United States

SW partners Mr. Willy Cheng and Ms. Lai Lam attended the INTERLAW Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) which was held in Miami, United   States during 10 to 14 September 2014.  The theme of the AGM this year was “Connect”. Delegates of INTERLAW members from all over the world were treated to fascinating and thought provoking presentations by keynote speakers Ms. Deborah Knupp and Mr. James Kane.  Ms. Knupp specializes in business development, relationship building, culture, and leadership and has been working as a coach and business executive for more than 25 years.  Mr. Kane is an inspirational and motivational speaker, business consultant and the author of two famous books, The Loyalty Switch and Virtually Loyal.

We are a founding member of INTERLAW, an international association of independent law firms which was established in 1982 and provides access to a network of independent law firms in more than 130 cities around the world.

More than 100 delegates including accompanying persons attended the AGM, which was a tremendous opportunity to “connect” with old and new friends.  We most certainly look forward to future opportunities whether business or social that will bring us together again.
