SW partner Ms Lai Lam and senior associate Mr Samson Wong attended the International Trademark Association (INTA) 2016 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida from 21 to 25 May 2016. This was the 138th Annual Meeting and was the largest in the history of INTA. A record number of 10,115 participants including brand management professionals, trademark and IP lawyers and other related professionals attended the meeting.

INTA focuses on the development of trademarks and intellectual property, provides protection to consumers and promotes fair and effective global commerce. The Annual Meeting provided a platform for communications and exchanges among professionals. The programmes included educational sessions, mediation training, exhibitions, industry exchanges, breakfast meetings and luncheons.

Ms Lam and Mr Wong also attended the 22nd gathering of INTERLAW Lawyers on 23 May 2016 morning during the INTA Annual Meeting. The breakfast meeting which was hosted by Aird & Berlis, the Toronto member of INTERLAW, and was attended by more than 60 lawyers from INTERLAW member firms.

SW partner Mr. Eric Lui, Business Development Manager (China) Ms. Zita Huang and Public Relations Manager Ms. Yo Yo Fang attended the “smartHK” exhibition held at the Chengdu Century City New International Exhibition & Convention Center from 12 to 13 May 2016.

The exhibition was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the theme of the exhibition was “industrial transformation and upgrading”. The major services covered innovative design and marketing, technological advancement and management upgrading.

The exhibition provided a wonderful opportunity for Hong Kong service providers to connect with the mainland market and promote Hong Kong’s total business solution to mainland enterprises.

On 18 May 2016, our partner Ms Heidi Chui attended the Belt and Road Summit organised by the Government of HKSAR and Hong Kong Trade Development Council held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Mr Zhang Dejiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, gave a keynote speech on the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative, and highlighted the pivotal role Hong Kong plays in this development strategy.

Policymakers representing major Belt and Road economies and representatives of international renowned conglomerates shared their views and offered insight into this unprecedented development framework, and addressed the importance of a close partnership between Hong Kong, mainland China and ASEAN to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Ms Chui is a member of the Belt and Road Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong.

On 16 May 2016, the representatives from the Committee for the HK and Macau Basic Law under the NPCSC, including Mr. Pan Xiaoda, Mr. Du Lei and Mr. Zhao Xianyang, and Mr. Du Chun from the China Legal Service (H.K.) Limited, visited our Hong Kong office.

The Event

Our partner Mr. Hank Lo attended the 2016 First International Family Office Conference co-hosted by the Association of Family Offices in Asia and the Association of Family Offices in Hong Kong on 14 and 15 May 2016. The theme of the conference was “Inheritance and Transformation of the Family Businesses and the Future of Private Enterprises in China”. More than 1,300 attendees, including the Ambassador of the Embassy of Switzerland in China, Mr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel, renowned writer in economics, Mr. Wu Xiaobo, renowned academic, Mr. Wang Depei, representatives from well-known family businesses, family offices and related service agencies from China and abroad participated in this event.

Awards to SW Trustees

Many attendees continued the dialogue with Mr. Hank Lo by having one to one discussion with him after the presentation.
