SW acted for the issuer, Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited (1788.hk), as to Hong Kong laws for its issue of USD 300 million subordinated perpetual securities. The placing agent was Guotai Junan Securities (Hong Kong) Limited. The joint subscribers were China Industrial Securities International Brokerage Limited, CNPC Finance (HK) Limited, China Guangfa Bank-China Southern Fund-QDII1-17, Guotai Junan Financial Holdings Limited and SPDB International Investment Management Limited.

Partners of Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended International Commercial Arbitration Symposium in Shanghai

On 16 June 2016, our partners Mr. Eric Lui and Ms. Heidi Chui attended the International Commercial Arbitration Symposium co-organised by AllBright Law Offices, the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and the Shanghai International Arbitration Center. The Symposium was held at Shanghai Tower.

Renowned practitioners explored various aspects in relation to commercial arbitration, including the interconnection between litigation and arbitration, how antitrust cases can be arbitrated, and the implementation of the Free Trade Zone Arbitration Rules. Mr. Lui and Ms. Chui delivered a seminar on how interim measures in support of PRC arbitral proceedings can be enforced in Hong Kong, and in particular how asset freezing orders and other forms of injunction can be granted by a Hong Kong court in aid of foreign arbitral proceedings.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended the 6th LAWASIA Family Law & Children’s Rights Conference

SW partners Ms. Catherine Por, associates Ms. Stella Cheng and Mr. Calvin Lo attended the 6th LAWASIA Family Law & Children’s Rights Conference from 9 to 11 June 2016 held at Novotel Century Hong Kong Hotel. Experts in the field from all parts of the globe including members from the judiciary, legal practitioners and mediators have came to share and exchange meaningful insights and developments on a wide range of cross border family law and children’s rights issues.

The position of surrogacy in different jurisdictions, impact of alternative dispute resolution of children, ethical issues for family lawyers, modern family concepts across jurisdictions and more were thoroughly discussed and examined through different forums and from multiple perspectives which included judge’s forum, presentations and case studies. Recent hot topics such as same sex relationships were also explored.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended Real Estate Annual Forum 2016

On 26th and 27th May 2016, SW partner Mr. Eric Lui, senior associate Ms. Freda Au and legal executive Mr. Man Wong attended Real Estate Professional Committee in Hefei, China organized by AllBright Law Offices. The topic of the annual forum was “The Internal Control and Management of Legal Risks in the Real Estate Industry under the Deepened Reform”. The forum covered a variety of topics including Enterprise Risk Management, Legal Risk Management of Real Estate Projects, the case of Shanghai the Bund 8-1 Land Plot, and Internal Control of Real Estate Enterprise Financing Risk.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) European Chapter Meeting in Amsterdam & Hague, Netherlands

Our partner Ms Wendy Lam attended the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) European Chapter Meeting held in Amsterdam and Hague, Netherlands from 25 May to 29 May 2016. IAFL is a worldwide association of practicing lawyers who are recognised by their counterparts to be the most experienced and skilled family law specialist in their respective countries.

In the conference, a number of significant family law issues, including cross-border mediation in international child abduction and relocation cases, legal position of minors, the future of spousal support and international judicial co-operation were discussed and considered.

This global conference provided an excellent opportunity for the leaders of the field from different countries to discuss the dynamic development of international family law and policies, share and exchange their ideas and to provide updates of the law and their legal services to manage ever-changing and increasingly international family legal problems.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. attended INTA 2016 Annual Meeting and INTERLAW Gathering

SW partner Ms Lai Lam and senior associate Mr Samson Wong attended the International Trademark Association (INTA) 2016 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida from 21 to 25 May 2016. This was the 138th Annual Meeting and was the largest in the history of INTA. A record number of 10,115 participants including brand management professionals, trademark and IP lawyers and other related professionals attended the meeting.

INTA focuses on the development of trademarks and intellectual property, provides protection to consumers and promotes fair and effective global commerce. The Annual Meeting provided a platform for communications and exchanges among professionals. The programmes included educational sessions, mediation training, exhibitions, industry exchanges, breakfast meetings and luncheons.

Ms Lam and Mr Wong also attended the 22nd gathering of INTERLAW Lawyers on 23 May 2016 morning during the INTA Annual Meeting. The breakfast meeting which was hosted by Aird & Berlis, the Toronto member of INTERLAW, and was attended by more than 60 lawyers from INTERLAW member firms.
