Stevenson, Wong & Co. presented at Allbright Law Office on wealth management, succession planning and investment immigration

On 15 August 2014 led by Stevenson, Wong & Co. partners Mr. Hank Lo and Mr. Eric Lui, our Ms. Connie Yeung and Mr. Peter Loo delivered presentations at the Hong Kong Plaza Office of Allbright Law Office in Shanghai entitled “Contemporary Wealth Succession” and “Immigrant Investor Programme”.  In addition to lawyers of the Hong Kong Plaza office, the presentations were also joined by lawyers from other Allbright offices through video conference.

Ms. Yeung discussed the key issues in wealth management and succession as well as the strengths and limitations of the various wealth management tools such as wills, insurance, offshore companies and trust.  Ms. Yeung also highlighted the merits of using offshore private trust in assets management.

Mr. Loo gave a detailed presentation on worldwide immigrant investor programmes, covering jurisdictions of Malta, Portugal, Australia, United States, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and Hong Kong.  Mr. Loo underlined the advantages of the different programmes, discussed the usual questions from investment immigration clients and handed out practical guidance materials to the participants.

The presentations were well-received and the participants found them informative and practical.

Our senior consultant attended meeting with the Competition Commission on the Competition Ordinance

Mr. Angus Forsyth, senior consultant of SW, attended a meeting on 23 July 2014 with a group of representatives from the Competition Commission to discuss key issues raised in the Commission’s discussion paper on the implementation guidelines required under the Competition Ordinance (Cap. 619).  Mr. Forsyth is a member of the Competition Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. team published an article on The Aviation Law Review

The Hong Kong Chapter in The Aviation Law Review (Second Edition), which was published in July 2014, is co-authored by SW’s experienced aviation law practitioners, Mr. Neville Watkins, partner and Mr. Simon Tong, assistant solicitor.

Hong Kong is one of the most important regional aviation hubs for Asia and boasts one of the busiest airports in the world. The Chapter provides a summary of aviation law in Hong Kong, which includes the regulatory framework, licensing of operations and aviation liabilities.

The Chapter explores the major legislations governing aviation activities in Hong Kong, such as the Civil Aviation Ordinance (Cap. 448), Aviation Security Ordinance (Cap.494) and the Airport Authority Ordinance (Cap.483). It also provides a background of the newly passed Trade Description Ordinance (Cap.362) and the Competition Ordinance (Cap.619) which impact on the manner of provision of services to consumers and restrict anti-competitive conduct in the aviation field respectively.

The Chapter also sets out how international conventions are implemented in Hong Kong to enforce carriers’ liability for death and injury of passengers which enhances consumer protection.
