Book Launch of “A Practical Guide to Mental Health Law in Hong Kong”

Ms. Sherlynn. G Chan, Partner of Stevenson, Wong & Co. authored a book entitled “A Practical Guide to Mental Health Law in Hong Kong” which was published by Hong Kong University Press in June 2019. To mark the occasion, a newly established non-government charitable organization, co-founded by Ms. Chan and other community leaders, MIP Care Resources Connect Ltd (“MIP CRC”) hosted a book launch on 8 July 2019 at Hong Kong Club. More than 150 guests attended the event including the representatives from various NGOs, legal and medical professions, educators, members of the Judiciary and government departments, caregivers and charity partners. SW partners Mr. Hank Lo, Ms. Catherine Por, Ms. Lai Lam, Ms. Janice Chin, Ms. Heidi Chui, Mr. Rodney Teoh, senior associate Mr. Calvin Lo and consultant Ms. Shirley Sin also attended the event.

Ms. Sherlynn Chan delivered an opening speech to thank all distinguished guests for taking the time to attend this event and introduced the objectives of MIP CRC. She also emphasized that the main purpose of writing the book is to help caregivers and professionals who work with mentally incapacitated person to understand the mental health issues and the relevant legal frame work in Hong Kong. The event was well received and was a wonderful opportunity for multi-disciplinary professionals and NGOs in this field to connect.

“A Practical Guide to Mental Health Law in Hong Kong” consists of twelve modified case studies based on real-life scenarios which introduce the relevant mental health law in Hong Kong. The book also highlights the legal procedures and practical considerations for managing the property and affairs of persons suffering from mental incapacitation (MIPs) and addresses alternative planning tools such as wills, enduring powers of attorney, continuing powers of attorney, and advance medical directives. Ms. Chan ends the book with a discussion on the way forward for Hong Kong, with reference to the mental health law and legal practices in other common law jurisdictions pertinent to the protection of the interests of MIPs.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. advised World Super Holdings Limited (8612.HK) on its successful listing on HKEx

Stevenson, Wong & Co. advised World Super Holdings Limited (Stock Code: 8612) (“World Super”) on its successful listing on GEM of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on 12 July 2019. World Super offered a total of 150 million shares priced at $0.55 per share, raising gross proceeds of approximately HK$82.5 million.

World Super and its subsidiaries mainly (i) rent crawler cranes, oscillators, reverse circulation drills and hydromill trench cutters for construction projects in Hong Kong and Macau; (ii) trade crawler cranes, reverse circulation drills, trench cutters, oscillators and/or related spare parts to customers in Hong Kong, Macau and the Philippines; and (iii) provide machinery transportation services and other affiliated services

AllBright ‘s Suzhou Office Visited Stevenson, Wong & Co.

On 9 July 2019, a delegation from AllBright’s Suzhou Office (“AB”) visited Stevenson, Wong & Co. (“SW”) and met with SW partners Mr. Hank Lo, Ms. Catherine Por, Ms. Heidi Chui, Mr. Stephen Wong, Mr. Rodney Teoh, Ms. Milly Hung and senior associate Mr. Gordon Tsang.

Stevenson, Wong & Co. Participated in “Life Buddies Scheme” – Job Tasting Programme 2019

Between 27-28 June 2019, Stevenson, Wong & Co. participated in the “Life Buddies Scheme” – Job Tasting Programme. The scheme was launched by The Commission on Poverty in October 2015 to promote a mentoring culture in the community to help youths from disadvantaged backgrounds to move upward in society and thereby reducing intergenerational poverty.

During the two-day programme, participants performed research and handled tasks relating to different cases studies including, a presentation about the recent protests and current affairs in Hong Kong. Our partners Ms. Catherine Por and Ms. Lai Lam also gave advice and encouraged the participants to be confident and work hard so as to achieve their dreams. “We now have a better understanding about a law firm and the role of a lawyer. We are happy to have joined this programme.”

Stevenson, Wong & Co. are always happy to support activities relating to the youth so as to help them improve their life skills, enhance their exposure, engage in education, training and development so as to achieve their career goals.
