Publication of The Hong Kong Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents – Insurance Volume
The Insurance Volume of The Hong Kong Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents, co-authored by SW’s three experienced insurance practitioners Mr. Neville Watkins and Ms. Heidi Chui, partners, and Mr. Angus Forsyth, senior consultant, has been published.
This volume contains a detailed commentary on Hong Kong insurance law, which provides an informative read with a hard pragmatic edge. It is designed to assist legal practitioners by providing a basic guide through the complex structure of rules, codes and practice directions requiring observance in implementing the self-regulation of the insurance industry in Hong Kong.
The Commentary sets out and distinguishes between the major players in the insurance industry under self-regulation as separately defined in and provided for under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41) between insurers (including reinsurers) and the intermediaries which comprise brokers and agents. It further explains and, by reference to decided Hong Kong cases and UK cases which are of persuasive authority, sets out the various necessary principles of insurance law giving useful definitions.
The Commentary is linked by cross-references to the Forms and Precedents, which include a useful glossary giving the meanings of technical terms and acronyms widely used in the insurance industry.
Please contact our Neville Watkins, Heidi Chui and Angus Forsyth for any enquiries or further information about this publication.
Stevenson, Wong & Co. team published an article on The Aviation Law Review
The Hong Kong Chapter in The Aviation Law Review (Second Edition), which was published in July 2014, is co-authored by SW’s experienced aviation law practitioners, Mr. Neville Watkins, partner and Mr. Simon Tong, assistant solicitor.
Hong Kong is one of the most important regional aviation hubs for Asia and boasts one of the busiest airports in the world. The Chapter provides a summary of aviation law in Hong Kong, which includes the regulatory framework, licensing of operations and aviation liabilities.
The Chapter explores the major legislations governing aviation activities in Hong Kong, such as the Civil Aviation Ordinance (Cap. 448), Aviation Security Ordinance (Cap.494) and the Airport Authority Ordinance (Cap.483). It also provides a background of the newly passed Trade Description Ordinance (Cap.362) and the Competition Ordinance (Cap.619) which impact on the manner of provision of services to consumers and restrict anti-competitive conduct in the aviation field respectively.
The Chapter also sets out how international conventions are implemented in Hong Kong to enforce carriers’ liability for death and injury of passengers which enhances consumer protection.
