On 25 Feb 2020, our firm’s Senior Associate Mr. Gordon Tsang and Senior Manager of Commercial and Corporate Finance Department Dr. Rain Huang were invited to give a CPD talk for LexOmnibus for two consecutive years.

During the 3-hour talk on “Rules and Regulations on IPO”, Mr. Tsang and Dr. Huang gave an in-depth introduction of the rules and practice of Hong Kong’s IPO market and the disclosure of connected transactions. The course was further enriched with insights including the fundamentals of commercial requirements, the legal implications and the practical applications.

Our firm’s partner, Ms. Sherlynn Chan, published an article titled “Managing the Property and Affairs of Persons with Mental Incapacity” in the February edition of the “Hong Kong Lawyer”, the official journal of the Law Society of Hong Kong. This article is part one of two articles co-authored with Ms. Daisy Cheung, Assistant Professor of the University of Hong Kong and Deputy Director of Centre of Medical Ethics and Law.

The impact of ageing population, the current legal framework, and the need for legal reform in Hong Kong are explored in this article. It then delves into Parts II and IVB of the Mental Health Ordinance (Cap. 136) surrounding the management of assets of a person without mental capacity (“MIP”).

“In light of the ageing population, we must work together to improve education and promote awareness of mental health, elderly and special needs issues; to provide training to detect and prevent mental deterioration and physical, emotional and financial abuse against MIPs.”

In the next issue, to be published in April 2020, the human rights concerns arising from the involuntary detention and treatment of patients, and the concepts of mental capacity, best interests, and subsitute/supported decision-making will be further explored.

AllBright Law Offices’ 2020 annual dinner was successfully held on 17 Jan 2020 at Shanghai International Convention Center. Stevenson, Wong & Co. partners Mr. Willy Cheng, Mr. Hank Lo, Ms. Catherine Por, Ms. Heidi Chui, Mr. Rodney Teoh, Mr. Osbert Hui, together with senior associates Mr. Dominic Lau, Mr. Terence Lau, Mr. Calvin Lo, Mr. Gordon Tsang, associates Mr. Michael Lau, Mr. Tommy Lau, Mr. Kyle Lo, compliance director Mr. Roy Chan, paralegal Mr. Arthur Hung and senior administrative officer Ms. Susan Lo and other members attended the dinner.

Over a thousand guests from AllBrights’ headquarter and 21 branches in mainland China attended the gala. In his opening speech, Mr. Gu Gongyun, managing partner of AllBright, summarised the past achievements of AllBright and expressed his vision for the firm’s future.
During the dinner, representatives from different branches entertained the guests with music and dance. After months of training, our firm’s trainees performed on the stage with their version of a popular song and hip-hop dance.
